About Us
In 1947, following his service to his country in the United States Navy on a destroyer, the USS Anderson, Mr. J. D. Westmoreland was trained in Paris, Texas in jewelry repair and engraving. He later graduated as a certified watch maker in Memphis, Tenn. He began his watch repair career at Sears Roebuck in the downtown Atlanta store on Ponce De Leon Avenue. He then received a government contract for the watch maker concession at the Post Exchange (PX) at Ft. Gillem. About a year later he got a contract at the PX at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, GA. Several years later he moved back to Atlanta and worked in downtown in a watch repair shop and this opened the door to manage the watch repair and parts department of the Bulova Service Center in Forest Park, GA (supervising about 30 watchmakers). His career with Bulova stretched out of over 10 years until the Bulova Service Center was closed and moved to New York.
He opened Westmoreland’s Time Shop in August 1980 as a watch repair store on Main Street, in Olde Town Conyers. Initially, he had one employee, Paul Steele. After one year, he needed to expand and moved to a larger location on Main Street. Shortly after, he was contracted by Seiko Watch Company to open the Pulsar/Seiko Service Center of GA and this opened the door for expansion and the purchase of the current location of Westmoreland’s at 907 Commercial Street. The service center contract ended when Seiko moved all their US service centers to New Jersey.
Westmoreland’s Time Shop remained open for local and trade watch repair for all types of watches, contracting with local and out-of-state jewelry stores throughout the Southeast. Through the years the store began selling jewelry, Pulsar watches, and ArtCarved Class Rings. J. D. Westmoreland retired at the end of 2004. The store is now run by his son-in-law, Wade Ramsey. Wade began working at Westmoreland’s in September of 1991. Two long-term faithful employees, Faye Cone, who previously worked with Mr. Westmoreland at Sears, and Eddie Hamm, who also work with him at the Bulova Service Center of GA. Faye came to work at Westmoreland’s Time Shop in 1981.
Westmoreland’s offers a full array of services including watch repair, repairing inexpensive watches as well as high-grade Swiss Watches, jewelry repair and clock repair.
